Marist High School, Save, Rwanda

Save is located near Butare, about a two hour drive from Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.  Br Valance, the Dean of Discipline at the local Marist school, came to my room in the Brothers’ house in Save to take me to the school.  There, Br Augustine, the School Principal, invited me to introduce myself and speak to the 750 students at their Sunday morning school assembly. All the students at this flourishing Marist school are boarders and come to this school because it is known as a very good school. After the assembly, a group of students took me on a guided tour of the school, of which they are so proud.  The students are pictured here from left: Emmanuel (16 years of age, Senior 3 Class), Denise (19, Senior 6), Augustine (23, Senior 6) and Derek (13, Senior 2).  The students here generally hope to go to university where they will study and preferably complete a Ph.D. This will help them get a position in the professions.  Government positions, however, are difficult to obtain.  Jobs in markets or shops are easier to secure.
