Contemplative Dialogue

Fr Greg Burke, a discalced Carmelite hailing from Sydney and the Congregation's newly elected Provincial, led our annual retreat in Adelaide from 26th December 2016 to 2nd January 2017.

Leading in a Marian Way

Marists involved in education often seek to discuss leadership.  Given current world events and the differing styles of political leadership in evidence today, it is easy to understand why. For those involved in Marist leadership, an important form of leadership is Marian leadership.

Learning Together

Over recent weeks I have been working with Marist groups on the topic of leadership. Our founder, Marcellin Champagnat spoke about the importance of Marist educators including the best practices of contemporary society in their Marist work. This, of course, applies to leadership as well as to education more generally.

Prayer

The readings of the Church for the 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time raise the timely question of what is prayer?

Leadership Programs

Over the past few weeks we have held two Marist leadership programs.  The first, over a four-day period with senior staff in  Marist schools, the second with potential leaders in our schools.

Champagnat Day

On 6th June we celebrate the Feast of our Marist founder, St Marcellin Champagnat.  In honour of this occasion our Superior General Br Emili Turú presents us with a message in which he describes the link between the Church's Year of Mercy and our Marist celebration of Fourvière.

Being Together

Marist Brothers from the southern region of Australia gathered together at Brunswick on Friday 20th May, 2016 for one of two annual forums in 2016. Led by Br Neville Solomon, we began by discussing Mercy within the theme of 'The Theology of Mercy'.

Year of Mercy

On Monday 1st February, 2016, a number of us Marists were privileged to attend a day sponsored by the La Salle Academy for Faith Formation and Religious Education of the Australian Catholic University on the topic of ‘Mercy'. The day was led by scripture scholar Sr Veronica Lawson RSM.

The Art of Presenting

When invited to make a presentation to a meeting or other gathering, what is the best approach to adopt?  How should one prepare?  I am asking these questions at the moment as I get ready to lead a number of gatherings on leadership over the next couple of months.

Create, Learn, Engage, Administer and Review

When we think about Marcellin Champagnat we can think of him in the context of the French culture of his day. Then we must necessarily relocate ourselves back into our own time - the here and now - to gain benefit from our reflection on Marcellin in his time.  I would like to suggest five activities that apply to our lives as Marists on mission which incorporate the spirit of Marcellin conveyed to us from his time.  The acronym is CLEAR.
