Awards for 'Champagnat: An International Marist Journal of Education and Charism'

Fr Mark WallsEach year the Australasian Catholic Press Association grants awards at its Annual Conference. Our Journal 'Champagnat' has been fortunate to receive a number of awards across the years. This year we received two awards - The Bishop Phillip Kennedy Memorial Prize for Best Magazine and the Award for Best Mission Coverage.

The judge of the Best Magazine Award, Dr Michael Costigan, stated 'Each of the three 104-page issues submitted for consideration had a different theme, explored in every case by thoughtful and well written articles.  These were accompanied by reviews, opinion pieces and artistically displayed photographs and illustrations. This competently edited and presentable magazine from the Marist family deserves high praise and recognition.' In my role as editor, I congratulate Juliette Hughes and Lucille Hughes who do the majority of the work in enabling 'Champagnat' to come to fruition.

I also thank the other members of our Management Committee, the members of the Editorial Board for their ongoing refereeing and advice and our ever generous proofreaders.

The article we submitted for the Best Mission Coverage Award was written by Marist Fr Mark Walls titled 'Turning Mission into Ministry'.  Judge, Marita Winters said of this article 'There is much food for reflection provided in this article on the nature of the programs, the catechesis on the gospel stories and the nature of Mission in education in the 21st century.  It is a great example of how traditional missionary endeavours are updated for new and greater effect. This is the new evangelisation in practice.' We congratulate Mark on winning this award.

Thanks and congratulations to Br John, whose vision is the driving force for 'Chsmpagnat'. It is wonderful to have one's hard work recognised. And congratulations are also in order for Br Mark Walls, whose compelling and comprehensive piece 'Turning Mission into Ministry' was a deserving winner of the award for Missions coverage.
I feel blessed and privileged to be a part of the 'Champagnat' endeavour.

Erratum: 'Fr' not Br': apologies to Fr Mark Walls. (It shows the value of good proof readers!)

Shh. I didn't notice the error until you pointed it out! Ted.
