The seminar was held at New Norcia, a 1½ hour drive north east of Perth. New Norcia is the only Monastic town in Australia. It was founded by the Benedictine Monks in the 1840s and has a fascinating history. A small group of monks has continued the tradition within the local monastery. It was particularly appropriate for the seminar to be held at New Norcia as it was in 1913 that the Marist Brothers accepted the invitation of the Monks to conduct their school, St Ildephonsus College. It was from the acceptance of this invitation that the ministry of the Marists in Western Australia had its genesis and it was from the presence of the Brothers at St Ildephonsus College that Newman College in Perth evolved. Participants at the seminar had a rather unique opportunity of exploring the town and participating in Vespers with the Monks. The program was delivered by Jocelyn Hansen, Head of Primary at Newman College and Br Terry Orrell, Campus Minister at Newman College, with assistance from Marie Dorrington. All agreed that the experience of the three days was very worthwhile and thoroughly enjoyable.'

Great to see the range of schools represented in the 'trek' to New Norcia and to learn first hand of the connection between the great town of New Norcia and Newman College. I am sure the Marcellin story would have been well presented by Br Terry, Jocelyn and Bernie. Best wishes to all.
