Brs Emili Turu and Joe McKee elected in Rome

From left: Brs John McMahon, Jeffrey Crowe, Carl Tapp, Emili Turu, Joe McKee, Barry Burns, Julian Casey, Graham Neist, Ken McDonald and Michael GreenThis morning, 26th September, the Capitulants of the 21st General Chapter elected Br Emili Turu as the 13th Superior General of the Marist Brothers. Great celebration took place after the election with Capitulants processing to the main Chapel, singing the Magnificat.

Emili, who is 54, comes from Barcelona in Spain. He has served on the General Council for the past eight years. During this time he assumed responsibility for the area of Ministry which included overseeing the organisation of the Mission Assembly in Mendes, Brazil in 2007.

This afternoon the Capitulants elected Br Joe McKee as Vicar General. Joe is currently the Provincial of West Central Europe Province.  Originally from Scotland, Joe has spent many years in Africa, including a period as Rector of the Marist International Center in Nairobi. Joe speaks six languages.

We congratulate warmly Emili and Joe on their election.

Dear John
congratulations on your page and thanks for the updates on the Chapter. It has been a strange sense to have left when things are still progressing - so I still feel connected by reading the updates.
Great photo of the Oceania delegates with the new SG and Vicar. Wonder what Barry's thinking?

See you all back home
